NEW: LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!!

ACS wants you, our awesome Reston Community, to decide the duration of our event in 2015. Please come to our Town Hall Meeting on October 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at South Lakes High School. We will discuss the three options and ask you to cast your vote! Here are the options to ponder:

Option 1 –18 Hours, overnight, 1 p.m. Sat – 7 a.m. Sun

*We stick to our 18 year tradition of walking the track all night in honor of those who have been affected by cancer, because cancer never sleeps and neither do we.

*We maintain our flexibility: teams are not required to stay overnight.

*Maximized onsite fundraising: our teams do a great job with onsite fundraising. Shortening that time may decrease funds raised.

*Youth teams have a minimum fundraising requirement for overnight participation of $50 each. This has increased active participation of the youth teams--the next generation of relayers, and resulted in $50k (2014) in the fight!

Option 2 -- 12 hours, overnight, 6 p.m. Sat -- 6 a.m. Sun

*We are still walking overnight but the start time is much later.

*Youth teams have minimum fundraising requirements for overnight participation of $50 each. This has increased active participation of the youth teams--the next generation of relayers, and resulted in $50k (2014) in the fight!
*There is less time between the survivor lap and the luminaria ceremony, which may increase participation in both.
*Entertainment and educational programming is shortened: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. is typically jam packed with great activities.
*Onsite fundraising time is short: onsite fundraising activity is highest in the afternoon hours. There will likely be no silent auction, another big onsite fundraiser.
*Children activities may not be included as they typically end around 6 p.m.

Option 3 – 12 hours, ending at midnight, 12 p.m. Sat – midnight Sun

*Start time will be one hour earlier and we will not be walking overnight.  In the event we choose to end the overnight component, we may not be able to have overnight events at South Lakes High School in the future.

*We will still be able to have children’s activities and onsite fundraisers.
*Our day-time ceremonies and activities will have a similar timing and flow.
*Participants will need to pack up their campsites, ensure the field is free of debris, and leave South Lakes after the closing ceremonies at midnight.
*We lose $50k that result from the youth overnight fundraising requirement and potentially 50% of our participants, which are youth.

Option 4 – 6 hours, ending at midnight, 6 p.m. Sat – midnight Sun

*We are no longer considered an overnight event and may not have the option of returning to an overnight event at South Lakes High School in the future.

*Onsite fundraising will be significantly impacted. There will likely be no silent auction, another big onsite fundraiser.
*Entertainment and educational activities are limited to an extremely short amount of time.
*Children's activities may not be included as they typically end around 6 p.m.
*Participants will need to pack up their campsites, ensure the field is free of debris, and leave South Lakes after the closing ceremonies at midnight.
*We lose $50k that result from the youth overnight fundraising requirement and potentially 50% of our participants, which are youth.

If you cannot attend, please reply to this email with your ONE vote! All votes MUST be received by 7:30 p.m. on October 21.
