Thank you Relayers!!!
The 16th Annual Relay For Life of Mahopac was an amazing success!
We hosted over 90 teams, 220 cancer survivors and their caregivers and many sponsors, supporters, entertainers and volunteers! To date we have raised over $278,000 and money is still coming in! If you still have checks you can mail them to Tracey Walsh at: American Cancer Society 121 Executive Drive New Windsor, NY 12553.
Mahopac Relay For Life also gained the special honor of becoming an American Cancer Society CAN (Cancer Action Network) Event by signing up over 67 volunteers who will allow their voices to be heard supporting the American Cancer Society's Advocacy program!
Congratulations to the entire Mahopac Relay Family for doing such an outstanding job!!
Schedule of Events
Relay for Life events include the inspiring moments below - please check back for our final schedule:
Opening Ceremony - Noon
The Opening Ceremony brings everyone together for a high-energy event kickoff to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to inspire hope by sharing recent accomplishments and progress, and to remind everyone that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority.
Survivor Lap - 12:30 p.m.
During the Survivor Lap, upbeat music plays as all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track, cheered on by other participants in celebration of their victory over cancer. A luncheon for survivors and their caregivers takes place immediately following the Survivor Lap.
Caregiver Ceremony during Survivor/Caregiver Luncheon
The Caregiver Lap recognizes those who have given care to cancer patients. Whether you are a family member or friend, if you have helped to take care of a loved one during his or her cancer journey, you are a caregiver..
Luminaria Ceremony - 9 p.m.
The Luminaria Ceremony offers a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope.
Fight Back Ceremony - 11:45 p.m.
The Fight Back Ceremony symbolizes the emotional commitment we each make to the fight against cancer. The action we take represents what we are willing to do for ourselves, for our loved ones and for our community to fight cancer-year round and our commitment to saving lives.
Closing Ceremony - 7 a.m.
The Closing Ceremony offers a time to remember the lives of those lost and to celebrate that each of us has committed, through our participation in a Relay event, to fight back against this disease over the next year.
