Please join the American Cancer Society to save lives and create a world with more birthdays in association with Winter Park Ski Resort to remember Thomas James Veit.  The Thomas James Veit Ski Down for Cancer is coming to Winter Park Resort for its fourth year this Spring. The TJV Ski Down started in 2011 as an event to honor former patroller Tom Veit, who was taken from us by colon cancer after a fight that lasted over three years. Tom patrolled with the Winter Park Professional Ski Patrol for twelve years, building relationships and fond memories that endure to this day.

This year’s ski down will be bigger than ever and for the first time the event will be held on a weekend.  The skiing portion of the event is open to all resort employees and volunteers.

An après ski event, including a silent auction, will be held once again at Doc’s Roadhouse in the base village. Doc’s will also have a special menu for the event as well as drink specials for event participants with certain proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Saturday, March 22 is the date for this year’s ski down. Our goal is to have as many members from every department on the mountain participate in the ski down. Please note that only employees and volunteers of Winter Park Resort and its tenant stores are eligible for participation in the skiing portion of the event. All are welcome to meet at Doc’s or watch from the bottom of the mountain. The Ski Down will be held after the mountain is closed for the day, and uniforms are encouraged to show support from each department. Participation is not required to make a donation.

For nearly a century, the American Cancer Society has fought for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. By taking what we’ve learned through research and turning it into what we do, we have contributed to a 15 percent decrease in the overall cancer death rate between the early 1990s and 2005. That means that we helped avoid about 650,000 cancer deaths and created the potential for more birthday celebrations. Overall, 11 million cancer survivors in America will celebrate a birthday this year. Now that’s a reason to party, so join us!
