EVENT DETAILS and QUICK LINKS
The Relay For Life of Georgetown University is an incredible and inspiring opportunity to unite as a community to honor cancer survivors, raise awareness about what we can do to reduce our cancer risk, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society fight the disease. Click below for more details about our event!
In the fight against cancer, silence is the last thing we need. Your local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event is a great place to take action and make noise. The Relay For Life movement features community and campus events that offer an inspiring opportunity to honor cancer survivors, promote how individuals can reduce their cancer risk, and raise money to help end cancer. Today, with the support of thousands of volunteers, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day. And we won't stop until we finish the fight against cancer!
Relay For Life at Georgetown
Since 2007, Georgetown University has raised over $2.1 Million for the American Cancer Society. Our event has been recognized nationally as one of the top collegiate events, receiving the “Best Rookie Relay” award, “Best of the Best Award” and Nationwide Top Five Youth Per Capita Fundraising Award. We welcome over 40 cancer survivors and their caregivers to our event each year. A student committee plans for Relay and organizes initiatives throughout the academic year. They have a table each Friday in Red Square to recruit students to register for the event and promote mission initiatives such as making cards for children at the Lombardi Cancer Center. The student committee also volunteers it’s time at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in nearby Baltimore, MD. Over 2,000 students from all corners of the Hilltop participate in our 12-hour overnight event on Harbin Multisport Field. In addition to the Survivor Lap and Luminaria Ceremony, highlights of the event are eating contests, dance and a cappella performances, a bounce house, tie dye and a push-up contest.
