Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3)

This year, Seattle and its surrounding communities will have the unique opportunity to participate in a landmark new cancer research study, the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), during the week of August 19-23. This study has the potential to shed new light on the causes of cancer, as well as discover new ways to prevent cancer.

The American Cancer Society's Epidemiology Research Program is inviting men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 years who have no personal history of cancer to join this historic research study. The ultimate goal is to enroll at least 300,000 adults from various racial and ethnic backgrounds from across the U.S. This is where you come in.

To ensure CPS-3 is a success, we are selecting Community Champions to help the Society reach its regional enrollment goals for the Puget Sound area.

As a Community Champion, your volunteer role will include:

  • A commitment of 1-2 hours/week for 2 months
  • Engaging 10 or more people to enroll in CPS-3 during the week of August 19-23
  • Use provided promotional templates to share information about CPS-3 with your coworkers, friends and family. Promotional templates include fliers, emails and newsletters, but we know that sometimes the most effective way to engage people is simply to make a personal ask.
  • If you’re eligible, schedule your own appointment to enroll in CPS-3.

If you have a personal history of cancer or if you’ve already enrolled in CPS-3 as a participant, you can still be a Community Champion. To find out more information, please contact Mary McHale at mary.mchale@cancer.org or (206)674-4187.
