An Open Letter to the NAU Community:
To all NAU students, faculty, staff, and community members:
On behalf of the 2013 Relay For Life of NAU planning committee, we want to thank the entire NAU community for the incredible support we have received as a part of our ninth annual event on campus. By bringing together clubs, departments, fraternities, sororities, and groups of friends, over 1,400 people on 113 teams raised $80,000 for the American Cancer Society this year, far exceeding the goals of our event.
These funds will be used to provide education programs, advocacy for cancer research, services to cancer patients currently battling this disease, and allow researchers to progress towards the end of cancer as we know it.
We are beyond grateful for the many cancer survivors that allowed us to celebrate them by attending this year’s Relay. You are the reason we continue to push to finish the fight and end the battle against cancer.
Thank you to the many NAU departments for their continued support of our event. From Athletics providing us with the J.L. Walkup Skydome for our event to Information Technology Services providing us with laptops for registration to Dining Services and ASNAU providing food for our event’s participants, we appreciate all the departments that have assisted us in putting on a great event year after year.
A special thanks to Provost Dr. Laura Huenneke and Associate Vice President Dr. David Camacho for their attendance at our event and remarks during our opening ceremony.
We’d also like to thank this year’s Relay planning committee-thirty dedicated NAU students that donated their time to make Relay the fun all-night fundraising party that it is! Relay For Life is the largest student-organized fundraiser on the NAU campus, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without each and every one of you.
Finally, we’d like to thank the NAU student body. Your enthusiasm leading up to the event and energy that Friday night in the Skydome has impressed us beyond words. It makes us both proud to be Lumberjacks and excited to see what this campus can do with Relay next year!
The incredible support we have received from all Lumberjacks proves that the Northern Arizona University community is dedicated to the fight against cancer. Thank you all for your support; we can’t wait to see you next year!
Relay on,
