Relay For Life is celebrating its 25th year in 2009. What started as one’s man’s 24-hour walk and run around a track in 1985 has turned into a worldwide life-changing movement of 3.5 million people celebrating the battle against cancer. For the third straight year Starbucks, with national corporate support, will rally teams around the nation to champion the mission of the American Cancer Society.
How Can Employees Help Fight Cancer?
By forming Relay For Life teams at the local level, by volunteering their time to help at the event, and by carrying out fund-raising activities to support the American Cancer Society.
Where Does the Money Go?
The American Cancer Society provides funding for a wide range of services including research, education and treatment counseling for cancer patients, their families and medical professionals around the globe.
How Do I Get Involved?
1. Click on “Find an Event” enter your zipcode and sign up for a Relay For Life near you. Be sure to select Starbucks listed in the selection of National Team Program corporations. Please make sure you follow the naming convention that incorporates Starbucks Coffee Company when you are setting up your team as a Team Captain.
2. Once you've located your local event you can click on the link "National Corporate Teams" to see how our National Corporate Team Ranks.
3. Participate in Make Your Mark or Choose To Give!. Through Make Your Mark, Starbucks Coffee Company matches partner and customer volunteer hours with cash contributions to nonprofit organizations. Starbucks Coffee Company also designed Choose to Give!, a flexible workplace-giving program that matches each partner’s charitable contributions, up to $1,000 annually. 4. Go to http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/nctp and listen to our team captain kickoff podcast posted in the podcast section coming soon! On this site there is a great corporate team recruitment video and other resources that you will find valuable in your volunteer position as a team captain.
