Other Helpful Information
You can access this website from your home:
- From your home computer, go to www.events.cancer.org/RFLWalgreens
- You can also access this website from from Walgreens. Go to StoreNet and click Policy and Procedure --> American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We appreciate your participation and encourage you and your team members to sign up on-line but please let your managers know of your involvement. They can better support your efforts during work hours and outside of work if made aware of your community involvement.
- Order your Walgreen Team T-Shirts by sending an email directly to Mark Schwab at mark.schwab@walgreens.com. Please include the following information in your request: Quantity, sizes, ship to address and ship to date.
- New this year: the design has changed slightly and includes the word "TEAM" directly under the Walgreens logo on the back of every t-shirt. This adjustment was made in an effort to promote a consistent, company-wide brand image in every community outreach or volunteer activity that your store is involved in.
- Have a team meeting. Do this a few months before your event to Discuss Fundraising, Recruiting and your To Do list.
Next steps if you are a Team Captain:
To Do List for a Successful and Fun Relay:
- The team captain is responsible for attending (or assigning a team member to attend) local relay meetings in your area. This is a great opportunity to gain information to share with your team about the specifics of your local Relay For Life event.
- Assign team members to specific tasks. Spread the work around so that one person doesn't do it all.
- Recruit team members...the more the merrier! Don’t be shy...ask your co-workers, family and friends to join your Walgreen team.
- Promote Walgreens: Please remember you and your team represent Walgreens. Ask your Store Manager about setting up a table with Walgreen pharmacy brochures, Photo coupons, Giveaways, etc.
- Food: Some local Relay events provide food for the walkers or sell food as a fundraiser at the event. It's also fun to pack a picnic and ask each of your team members to bring a dish to share.
- Chairs: Please be sure your team members each bring their own lawn chair (and sleeping bag if they would like).
- Tent: Usually each team brings a tent for their team members to rest in throughout the night.
- Decorations: Some teams decorate their tent site. Check with your local Relay to see if they have designated a theme for their event.
- Entertainment: Most Relays have a host of fun things to do. However, bring cards or small lawn games to entertain your team when they are on a break from walking on the track.
Ways to raise funds for the American Cancer Society:
- Talk to your coworkers, family and friends and ask them to join your team. Please make sure everyone signs up on this website (www.events.cancer.org/RFLWalgreens). You can send them a pre-written e-mail via the site to let them know of your involvement. It is fast, easy and convenient for everyone involved!
- In addition to asking your family and friends for donations, consider planning a fundraiser to raise money for your team. Some of our most successful fundraisers last year were jeans day, bake sales, selling crafts, Hot Dog Sales, and Raffles. Use your imagination but please remember that we cannot engage our customers in fundraising efforts. They already contribute through our annual in-store scannable campaigns.
- Please be sure to get approval from your store manager and district manager before conducting any fundraising activities.
Remember: All fundraising is to be done off the clock and away from the registers. Also, keep in mind that the American Cancer Society Suns and Moons cannot be sold in our stores. - Teams usually consist of 10-15 participants. Each participant is asked to raise as much money as they can in donations to the American Cancer Society.
Don't Forget to Have Fun!
- Organizing your team can feel overwhelming at times. Don't forget to work as a team and delegate responsibilities. Everyone has talents and skills to share. If you need additional help or support, please contact your local Relay For Life event chairman.
- Don't forget that Fighting Cancer is a team effort. The strength of people coming together for a common cause is greater than the strength of one.
