The Whatcom County Relay for Life is hosted by the American Cancer Society and is held in downtown Bellingham, Washington. The event occurs this year on Friday, July 8 starting at 6:00pm to Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2:00pm. The event occurs in a one block radius around the Bellingham Public Library. Event participants will be walking in front of the Bellingham City Hall building, Courthouse, and Bellingham Public Library.
This event is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, patient and caregiver support, to connect with one another, to remember those who have lost the battle cancer and to celebrate and encourage those who are currently battling or those in remission.
How this event works:
A majority of the participants either join an existing team or form a new team or register as an individual (Not belonging to a team). Throughout the year participants raise money through fundraising events or by getting donations. The money is then used by the American Cancer Society to help fund cancer research, provide support to those battling cancer, or to raise awareness in the public. The event has one in goal in mind: To eventually find a cure for this nasty, nasty disease. Remember it all started with ONE. Though it is not required to belong to a team to participate in the Relay for Life event, it is highly encouraged.
Teams that are formed are then given a campsite location at relay (Either on the City Hall, Public Library lawn or a RV campsite on the road). Teams can then decorate their campsites in the theme of this years relay, sell items, have a place to sleep at relay, or to connect more with their teams, or others in the community.
