Fight Back.

CareWhen people talk about the fight against cancer, they aren't just talking about those facing the disease first hand. They mean the efforts of millions more who care about saving lives, diminishing suffering from cancer, and eliminating cancer as a major health threat once and for all. In communities across the globe, the American Cancer Society offers people opportunities to fight back against cancer through advocacy and volunteer efforts and events like Relay For Life®. By raising much-needed funds and awareness, every one who takes part in Relay helps support the Society's lifesaving mission, and in turn, helps fight back against a disease that affects so many.

A survivor named Victoria knows what it means to be a part of the fight against cancer in more ways than one. As a young person, she was a gymnast and in excellent physical health. However, at the very young age of 11, she discovered she now had to tumble with acute lymphocytic leukemia.

Her mom and aunt had already been involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. After her diagnosis, Victoria fought back against the disease by joining her family’s efforts.

Besides being involved with Relay, she was a Society legislative ambassador who went to the state capitol and met with several members of the House of Representatives as part of the Society’s advocacy efforts.

After surviving her childhood cancer, Victoria went on to cheer not only her school football team, but for all the cancer survivors in Orange County. Watch Victoria's video to hear more.

It is through activities like Relay For Life® that people like Victoria can fight back against a disease that touches far too many lives. At Relay, survivors, caregivers, and caring citizens can come together to build hope and raise awareness, and to help work together toward a future where cancer no longer threatens the lives of the people we love.
