In 2007-2008, our California community raised $67 million statewide in contributions for the fight against cancer.
- In turn, the Society's California Division reached more than 81,114 individual cancer patients and survivors with information, direct services, and attendance at survivorship events.
- The California Division employs one staff member for every 300 volunteers. We organize our volunteers and staff members to deliver our mission in specific communities in the most effective way. Mobilizing volunteers is vital to how we prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from this disease.
- On the research front, the Society had 143 research grants in effect in California during 2007-2008, totaling more than $65 million. Funds raised help support lifesaving research selected through our ACS nationally recognized peer review system.
- The Society awarded 46 research grants in California during 2007-2008, totaling $12,726,500. The California Division receives the greatest proportion of the National Research Budget, over any other state or Division.
- 34,390 cancer survivors were honored at Relay For Life events in California.
- 10,421 cancer patients received free transportation assistance for a total of 411,871 rides.
